About the NRHH
The National Residence Hall Honorary is a national organization that serves to recognize excellence. The University of Maryland Chapter of NRHH is the recognition branch of the Residence Halls Association. The RHA truly believes that recognition is a must in a strong Residence Hall community. As such, the UM NRHH strives to recognize those leaders.

NRHH chapters have a very special way of recognizing those top leaders, by membership. The NRHH chapter membership is restricted to 1% of students living in the residence halls. So, once inducted into NRHH you can consider yourself a member of the Top 1% of residence hall leaders nation-wide.

Committments
The NRHH is committed to leadership through community service, recognition of community leaders and the development of current members of NRHH. We fulfil these committments through our committee structure.

Committees
Community Service Committee:
The Community Service committee of NRHH is in charge of planning, involving other members in, and attending three community service events a semester. The committee will meet bi-weekly in order to plan such events.

Membership Committee:
As a Membership Committee member, you will be the people that give information to and recruit future NRHH members. This will entail going to various meetings (RA, CA, Hall Council, etc.) and explaining what NRHH is and the application process. Also, the Membership Committee will be involved in creating brochures about the NRHH and how to apply for membership. Another aspect of the committee will be to start organizing and running NRHH initiation and induction ceremonies. The committee will meet bi-weekly in order to plan such events.

Recognition Committee:
The recognition committee will decide the monthly awards called OTMs (Of The Month). This committee is also in charge of educating people on how to write good OTMs as well as selection. We will be recognizing good RA/CA/Housekeeper staff, and any kind of recognition for the banquet dinners (writing up blurbs about people etc). Other areas of concern include recognizing campus leaders as well as researching and implementing a campus recognition peice.

What does it mean?
The symbol for NRHH is that of a diamond surrounding the letters of the organization, and the three interconnected lines, the chain of leadership. The diamond, the world's most precious gem, signifies the value and beauty one finds in the residence halls experience.

The first link of the chain represents caring. Leaders are people who care. They are concerned about themselves and others, and are committed to making things better.

The second link signifies dedication. Part of a leader's commitment is the dedication to cause which they display. Dedication is an important part of the involvement required to be truly effective.

The third link represents participation. True leadersparticipate fully in their academic pursuits, their friendships, their activities, and their lives. Leaders don't sit on the sidelines, but are competent team players.

Together the unbroken chain symbolizes the membership of NRHH. As leaders we are interconnected as caring and dedicated participants in the community of your university.
